Design Example: CJ-D051A Leather Phone Stand
We aimed to introduce a phone stand that combines the textures of “leather and metal.”
After brainstorming various possible forms and conducting preliminary tests and screenings, we decided to explore a two-piece and self-assembly approach. To reduce costs, we designed both parts to have the same appearance.

We conducted practical tests on various interlocking structures to assess feasibility.

We finalized a dovetail design that balances strength, a clean appearance, and ease of operation.

By cleverly utilizing the soft and deformable nature of leather to connect two metal pieces, users can easily insert them into the dovetail by slightly offsetting them. We also incorporated a snap fastener to serve as the front guard for securely holding the phone, fully utilizing each structural element.
However, during prototyping, we noticed that the leather would lift at the cut section of the curved transition, resulting in uneven and unattractive surfaces.

Therefore, we made specific adjustments for the transition area, ultimately finding a detail design that allows the leather to naturally conform.
