About the 2024 Year of the Dragon Zodiac Metal Coin
The zodiac is a cycle of twelve animals used in East Asian calendars, with each year represented by one animal. The dragon is widely regarded as a symbol of good fortune, and 2024 was a Year of the Dragon. This coin was made by Fei Hong for Yong Lin Temple, a customer that has worked with Fei Hong for many years. It is die-cast in zinc alloy and made to the customer’s own design.
A note on temple giveaways: in many East Asian communities, temples give worshippers small keepsakes around Lunar New Year. These gifts, often called jieyuan gifts, are meant to share good wishes for the year ahead. A zodiac coin like this one is one such keepsake — part souvenir, part good-luck token.
Front: a green dragon coils among white clouds on a gold background. A red mane rises from its head like flames, and a red orb sits beside it. The scales and dorsal spines are colored with full-color digital printing, while relief work lifts the dragon off the metal surface so that it stands out against the gold. The year “2024” and the temple name are raised on the left, and a finely patterned, diamond-textured border frames the coin.
Back: the back shows a bagua (eight trigrams) and yin-yang design, together with the temple name and an inscription. The same gold border and diamond texture echo the front.
Packaging: the coin comes in a red paper box printed with the customer’s own artwork under the title “Good Fortune & Prosperity Gold Coin”. Inside, a clear round protective case and a display stand are included, so the coin can be put on display right away. The box design, protective case and stand can all be customized to the customer’s needs.
